Maybe your short term and long term preferences only line up with those older games, or maybe not. You'll need to go deeper if you want enough self awareness to increase your chances at finding a new game that you enjoy as much as your comfort food games. That's a very surfacey motivator, if one at all. Takes about 10 hours if you know every nook and cranny like i do, but if you're new, you're probably looking at 30-50 hours of gameplay.Īt times I find it difficult to "get into" something new, despite having motivators like new hardware. I practically grew up playing this game and every few months i get the urge of playing it again. It's been ported to a newer engine to work on modern PC's (it's from 1998) and available on Steam and GOG. Since you're a 90's gamer and if you like old school RPG's, then i can absolutely recommend the game Siege of Avalon. Plus, my modded Skyrim version probably looks better in terms of graphics quality than we could ever hope from Starfield or the next Elder Scrolls game. Currently i have over 1000 mods installed at the same time (i can post a screenshot if you don't believe me ) and through months of work i got it all to work together without issues, crashes, etc. But since it's still fun to shape the game exactly how i want it, i don't see a problem with it. Nowadays i spend more time tweaking and modding the game than actually playing. Over the last few years i've gone down deeper and deeper into the Skyrim modding rabbit hole. As long as you're having fun, you're doing it right.Īnd then in games like Skyrim and Cyberpunk, you can use mods to make old (ish) games feel fresh again. None of these are the latest hits and I already played through these games dozens of times but they're still fun to me, so i keep playing them. Lately i've been playing Skyrim, Cyberpunk, Siege of Avalon, Dark Souls 1 & 3 and Elden Ring. If you play older games because you enjoy them more, what's wrong with that? Don't force you to play games you don't want to play just because they're new.
